91.1 WTJU is a 51-year old, listener-supported public radio station located on the 2nd Floor of Lambeth Commons, on the grounds of the University of Virginia. WTJU recruits staff and announcers from the faculty and student body of the University and from members of the community.
Charlottesville has many very good radio stations, each one serving a
different listening audience. WTJU is a 21-hour a day 365 days a year,
multi-format radio station with diverse programming typical of University
radio stations.
WTJU encourages students to become involved whose tastes in music are not mainstream: WTJU does not play commercial or commercial-alternative music (If you hear it on MTV you probably won't hear it here!). WTJU broadcasts year-round, therefore there may be a limited amount of on-air positions available. If you are interested in announcing, please attach to your application a playlist of about 20-25 songs/performers that you might play during a radio program.
WTJU also highly encourages students to get involved with our jazz, classical and folk/Americana programming in addition to our rock shows.
Some musical categories at WTJU: Indi-rock, Classical, Jazz, Blues, Folk, Worldbeat, International, Reggae, Electronica, Hip-hop, Bluegrass, Celtic and Avant-garde.
We invite you to sample our on-air
programming.
WTJU features "block programming", meaning that depending upon when you
tune in you will regularly get music under the general categories of
rock, jazz, folk/Americana, or classical music.
If you would like to become involved with WTJU, please fill out an
application and
return it to WTJU in person or by email. For further information, call

If your tastes lean more towards adult urban or smooth jazz programming,
